“Your Why”
I am someone who…
How are you doing? March 1st is here already. How did that go?
We talked about not having a new year’s resolution. We talked about trying to give up “self judgement” for lent. This got me thinking. How have you been doing? Are you sticking with your plan of whatever you had conjured up for yourself?
My second quarterly program is starting on March 28th.
It’s a 12 week program on Time and Clutter management. Like my longitudinal program, it includes live weekly yoga classes with my favorite instructors on the island. I also offer one weekly live session of iRest yoga. This is along with group coaching and weekly video lessons.
To tell people about it, I put together a webinar last weekend. Since it was about clutter and time management, I wanted to pick my mom’s brain. She is the most organized human being I have ever met and has always kept a meticulous home.
So I told her that I was going to give a talk about why women physicians often struggle with clutter. I asked her, “why do you think that you are this way?”
She simply said: I am someone who likes to be this way.
Boom.
Imagine that. Imagine anything you wanted more in your life. Better weight. Better relationship. Better time and clutter management. Better financial health. Better confidence. Better goals and follow through.
What if you just said: I am someone who “Has a healthy relationship with food”.
I think before you set up a goal, you have to dig deep and know your why. I know that in coaching we want to improve your situation from good to great. But, I think if you don’t have a good “why” for your goal, it’s pretty typical for people to back out and not follow through.
Think of my why for keeping a healthy weight.
My father and his mother died of complications of diabetes mellitus at 61. I had gestational diabetes with both of my girls. My reason as to why I want to have a healthy relationship with food is more about keeping my fasting sugars low than it is to fit into a particular size of pants.
Setting goals for ourselves and following through with our plans does something else for us too. It proves to us that we are accountable. If I planned to start a podcast and have a weekly release, that is what I am going to do. Every week I do it, it is another week that
“I am someone who puts out a weekly podcast”.
I have people who have lost 15 pounds in my “Intentional Living” coaching program. Simply by following a reasonable plan of eating and being taught not to use food to numb their emotions. They are blown away and tell me that they can’t imagine how easy it has been.
Some of it has to be their “why”.
Some of it has to be them telling themselves that:
I am someone who (fill in the blank).
It is amazing. I don’t know if time and clutter management is something that you always felt like you struggled with. Do not make your past be the indication of who you are or who you could be moving into the future.
You can be someone who has all of that under control. Because that is who you are.
I am opening up my program this week. If you sign up before March 7th, I will include my “Eating Intentionally” Module and lessons for you if that is something you’d be interested to try.
Also check out my testimonials by the physicians that are currently in my program. Some offered to talk to you one on one if you are interested. Or otherwise you can set up an appointment with me for a quick chat to see if this is helpful to your life.
